What is stored
This site stores one random identifier in your browser. It is sixteen characters long and is retained for one year. It does not contain your name, your email address, or anything you have entered, and carries no meaning on its own.
Purpose
To distinguish repeated visits by one reader from single visits by several.
What else is recorded
The site records what an ordinary web server records: the page requested, the time of the request, the referring link, and the browser and country reported by your network. Where your browser executes the site's script, the visible duration and scroll depth of the page are also recorded. When you send a message to an author, the content you enter and your network address are additionally retained; the author is shown only the content. Unless you choose to provide a name or contact details, the site has no means of establishing your identity. When you use the site's search, the query you enter and the number of results it returned are also recorded, so that we may learn what readers are looking for and the site does not yet provide.
In the EEA and the UK
Consent is obtained before any identifier is stored. Declining requires a single click and the choice is retained; no identifier is created before you have answered.
What is not done
The site carries no advertising, uses no third-party analytics, sets nothing capable of tracking you across other sites, and neither sells nor discloses the above to any third party. The identifier is a first-party cookie and is transmitted by your browser to this site alone.
Removal
Clearing this site's data in your browser removes it. The site does not recreate the identifier by any means and will not recognise you thereafter.
Enquiries
For questions, or to request deletion of a record, please contact the editor-in-chief.
